Nomads has been a labor of love and is essentially the product of a 12-year metamorphosis. We started as a consignment shop for outdoor gear and clothing. We soon grew into a full-fledged outdoor store called Maine MountainWorks. After seven years with lots of personal, as well as local and national industry changes, we decided to take our business in a different direction.
We re-invented ourselves again to become a niche travel and adventure shop called Nomads.

Our customers tend to be urban nomads whose journeys may span the globe or may simply take them across town to their local Pilates studio. Either way, they are people who want comfortable, functional, stylish clothing for where-ever their journeys may take them. We take their lead with much of our product line but we’re also not afraid to surprise them with something a little different!

We’re very discerning of the lines we carry. We select brands like Prana, Icebreaker, Isis and Ibex not only for their superior products, but also for their commitment to social and environmental causes whose missions we also support.

We know that local business is the driving force behind maintaining a vibrant,creative, healthy community and we’re proud to be one of Portland’s Independents. We are passionate about community, passionate about Portland and passionate about Maine!
